TUCSON - The attorney for the woman pushed on University Boulevard following the UA basketball loss in the NCAA Tournament reacted to the new video released by Tucson Police.
Police recently released the body-worn camera video from Sgt. Joel Mann. He is the officer who pushed a 21-year-old UA senior in a viral YouTube video.
Stephen Weeks is representing that woman. They have not announced if they will file a lawsuit.
"It's obviously concerning," Weeks said. "There are two clear instances of excessive use of force beyond what's permitted by the general orders."
Tucson Police Chief Roberto Villasenor said Mann is on military assignment, and any potential disciplinary action would not be filed until he returned.
"Because of the power of social media and cameras and videos, they've been used to paint and portray an issue that, while it's alarming and concerning to us, just as it is to everyone else, I think that we have to take everything in its totality," Villasenor said.
Weeks also said he looks forward to going through some of the hours of video to get a real understanding of Mann's actions.
"Once I see it in context, perhaps it may impact my decision as to what was or was not appropriate," Weeks said.
