At least 24 homes destroyed by Monument so far

ASH CANYON - At least 24 homes in the Ash Canyon area have been damaged of lost to the Monument Fire, according to the latest update from Cochise County Sheriff's Office.

The areas where homes were lost include: Ash Canyon Road, Muffin Lane, Deer Trail, Prince Placer, Acorn, Pickett Lane, Twin Oaks, Mountainview, Stoneridge, Turkey Track, East Spring Road, and Brushy Oak.

No injuries have been reported so far - at 9 a.m. today, sheriffs did a second evacuation check in the Stump Canyon area to make sure all residents had left the area. Sheriffs estimate that about 650 residences have been evacuated at this time.

There is a pre-evacuation notification for all residents from Stump Canyon up to and including Miller Canyon, sheriffs say. This will encompass all roads in between such as Dead Bear Draw, Vista Grande, Wickersham, and over to Three Canyons.

The concern today is that similar wind conditions as yesterday could cause another active day for the Monument Fire, which has grown to 5,200 acres burned.
