TUCSON -PHOENIX - A specialized unit of Arizona Army National Guard Soldiers is being sent to Qatar in it's frist deployment since being formed in 2008. The 73 Soldiers of the 850th Military Police Battalion Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment will first depart to Camp Shelby, Miss., for a month of training.
The HHD, 850th Military Police Battalion's mission will be to conduct security force operations in support of the war on terrorism. These operations include force protection, law enforcement and physical security.
Over 300 Arizona National Guard Soldiers and Airmen are still serving on federal active duty in Iraq, Afghanistan, and within the continental U.S. Almost 9,300 have been called to federal active service
since Sept. 11, 2001.
