PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say an Arizona highway patrol officer has been seriously injured after being hit by a vehicle on I-17 near Munds Park.

Department of Public Safety duty officer Andrew Dobbins says the accident occurred early Sunday morning as the officer was assisting with a collision along the northbound lane.

He says road conditions were icy and several vehicles became involved in a multi-vehicle pileup. He says other drivers were also hurt but believes the officer had the most serious injuries.

The officer, who wasn't identified, was rushed to a hospital in Flagstaff, about 20 miles north. The patrol said Sunday morning the officer was in stable condition.

Details on the vehicle that hit the officer and the number of other vehicles involved were not immediately available.
