PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona's unemployment rate has inched up to 8 percent.
State Department of Administration economists reported Thursday that the jobless rate rose by two-tenths of a percentage point from May to June.
A year ago, Arizona's unemployment rate was 8.4 percent.
Economists say six of the 11 major sectors in Arizona lost jobs last month.
The state reported a net loss of 43,500 nonfarm jobs in June. A majority of those were within government, which lost 42,500 jobs.
Economists say the losses were typical this time of the year due to scaling back in employment for summer within local and state public education.
Trade, transportation and utilities reported the largest gain of 3,100 jobs.
