TUCSON - Arizona Wildcat freshman Katiyana Mauga has been selected as a Top 10 finalist for the NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year Award. The list was announced by the organization on Thursday.
Mauga, a San Diego native, leads the Pac-12 Conference with a .934 slugging percentage. Her 18 home runs are second to teammate Chelsea Goodacre. That mark is good for seventh in the NCAA. Mauga has also hit 11 doubles and one triple this season. She is currently batting .385 heading into the weekend series against top-ranked Oregon.
The list will be narrowed down to the top three on May 22. The NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year trophy will be presented prior to the opening of the College World Series on May 27.
