Arizona's budget still not ready

PHOENIX (AP) - An Arizona Senate committee plans to review changes the House made in the budget package senators passed a week and a half ago.

Monday's Senate Appropriations Committee meeting may give a first hint of whether the upper chamber will fight the extra spending added by the House.

The House added $54 million in overall spending, adding some money for child welfare programs and $33 million to allow school district sponsored charter schools to operate for another year.

Other additions included restoring emergency dental, podiatry and insulin pumps to the state's Medicaid plan.

The Senate passed its plan March 20. It was hung up in the House for most of last week by six Republicans who demanded more child welfare and education spending. The plan now sits at $9.24 billion.
