TUCSON - Today is the 37th Annual Great American Smokeout, an annual event that challenges smokers to start the quitting process by quitting for one day.
"The thought being - if you can quit for a day, you can quit for life," stated Arizona Department of Health Services Director Will Humble on his blog.
The Arizona Smokers Helpline, or ASHLine, provides free quit coaching and nicotine replacement therapies, such as the patch, gum, lozenge or medication. According to Humble, ASHLine has a 40 percent quit rate, which is among the leaders of quitlines around the country.
