Arizona Drops Oregon State, 3-1

TUCSON, Ariz. - Madi Kingdon (Phoenix, Ariz.) recorded a match-high 13 kills to lead Arizona (12-9, 4-6 Pac-12) to a 3-1 (25-17, 25-21, 20-25, 25-17) victory over Oregon State (13-9, 3-7 Pac-12) on Sunday inside the McKale Center.

Despite only hitting .220 on the afternoon, Arizona was good at the net as the Cats out-blocked Oregon State 11.5 to 3.0 in front of a season-high crowd of 3,907 inside the McKale Center. Meanwhile, the Beavers hit just .099 for the match.

Halli Amaro (Los Alamitos, Calif.) had nine kills and just one error, while also adding four blocks. Rachel Rhoades (San Diego, Calif.) had five kills to go with a match-high six blocks. Lauren Fuller (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Chanel Brown (Tempe, Ariz.) combined to dish out 32 assists. Fuller also added nine digs and two service aces. Meanwhile, Candace Nicholson (Long Beach, Calif.) recorded a match-high 18 digs.

The Wildcats opened the first set on a 6-2 run and Oregon State was never able to put a significant run together to pull even. Arizona led from start to finish to take the set, 25-17. The Cats hit .216 in the frame while holding Oregon State to a .000 attack efficiency.

After Oregon State jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the second set, Arizona rallied with a 6-0 run to take the 8-5 advantage. The Wildcats held the lead throughout the remainder and went on to win it, 25-21. The Arizona defense was strong for the second consecutive set as Oregon State hit just .108.

Oregon State came out strong from the intermission as the Beavers led from start to finish in the third set. OSU went on to cruise to a 25-20 victory to send the match to a fourth set. The Beavers hit .233 in the set, while Arizona hit just .036 in the frame.

After dropping the third set, Arizona came out inspired in the fourth set as the Cats jumped out to a quick 10-1 lead. Oregon State cut the lead to three on a couple of occasions, but that was as close as the score would get. The Wildcats pulled away late for a 25-17 victory.
