TUCSON - Congratulations to Reese Shirley from Latitude Catering, the Golden Spatula winner of the first-ever News 4 Tucson Grilling Games!
The judges were unanimous - all six chefs grilled amazing meals. The Bronze Spatula went to Jonathan Stutzman of Bob's Steak and Chop House, and David Matias from Mosaic Café took home the Silver Spatula.

In the mean time, you can try your hand at making his winning recipe:
Salsa de Carne Seca
1 cup beef jerky, chopped
1/2 cup yellow onion, diced
1 tablespoon garlic, chopped
1/4 cup roasted red pepper, peeled and julienned
1/4 cup roasted poblano peppers, peeled and julienned
1 tablespoon jalapeno, minced
1/2 cup yellow hominy
2 cups veal stock
1/2 cup tomato concasse
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/4 tablespoon cilantro, chopped
1/4 teaspoon cumin
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons butter
salt to taste
place beef jerky in 1 cup of the veal stock for 1 to 2 hours to soften.
sauté garlic and onions in butter until translucent for about 1 minute.
add remaining stock and reduce by 1/3. add red peppers, poblano peppers, hominy and cumin.
simmer for 5 minutes then add heavy cream and simmer for 2 more minutes.
pour over your favorite steak or chop, garnish with tomato, jalapeno and cilantro.
