Danielle Lerner joined the Tucson Today team in September 2011 and is thrilled at the chance to help Tucsonans get their days going every morning! She grew up in Arizona and comes to KVOA from our sister station KSBY-TV in San Luis Obispo, California, where she worked as a weekend anchor, weekend executive producer, reporter and weather anchor.
Danielle earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication and English Writing with a minor in Spanish from Saint Mary's College in South Bend, Indiana. She then went on to receive a Master's Degree in Broadcast Journalism from Northwestern University. While in school, Danielle interned at several news stations across the country, including KSAZ Fox 10 in Phoenix, WNDU in South Bend, and WBBM in Chicago, where she worked with Investigative Reporter Dave Savini on several award-winning stories.
Danielle is also an award winner herself. In 2014 she was honored with the APTRA Award for "Best Anchor," and in 2013 she won a Mark Twain Award for her coverage of Gabrielle Giffords' recovery after the January 8 shooting. She's received several nominations as well, including "Reporter of the Year" in 2010 and "Best Spot News" story in 2008.
In her free time, Danielle enjoys outdoor activities, reading, spending time with friends and family, volunteering at the Southern Arizona Humane Society and cheering on her Fighting Irish during football season! She has completed three half marathons, a sprint triathlon, and recently finished her first full marathon!
If you have any story ideas, or just want to say hello, feel free to email her!
