TUCSON - Seven time Olympic medalist, Amanda Beard is one of the world's best swimmers, but even she won't swim alone. "Eyes on" is her motto. The mother of 3-and-a-half-year old, Blaise... and a baby girl, due this month... Amanda will tell you, water safety is a top priority.
A few things Amanda Beard believes, about being a "Lifesaver."
*You should start your child in the water at 6-months of age, and make sure they know to ONLY swim with an adult.
*If you have a swimming pool, put alarms on all of your doors.
*And never take your child's ability for granted.
Amanda tells Kristi's Kids, "No matter if he knows how to swim, he knows not the go near the pool, he knows not to jump in the pool, he knows what not to do... there's a lot of things that are out of your control." For example, Amanda has dogs that could knock Blaise into the pool. He could hit his head and be knocked unconscious. Countless things could go wrong.
