TUCSON - It's another attempt to revitalize the city of Tucson this time with a brand new hotel set to open in the spring.
Aloft hotels is growing quickly. They have about 60 properties open across the world right now and 40 more set to open this year. The Tucson location will likely add curb appeal, business, and jobs to the university area.
Aloft hotels gutted the old hotel on Campbell and Speedway to create their signature modern look with the help of contractors all from Arizona.
"This is a solid building, built 40 plus years ago, great construction. They don't build them like that anymore," said Craig Martin, general manager of the hotel.
They are building with technology in mind with Smartphone keys and text to check in.
"We really try to touch that new demographic of traveler to give you the important things in a room element. You know, a fantastic bed, a great internet pipe, we'll have one of the largest in Tucson," said Martin.
This hotel means about 60 more jobs, good for the worker and the economy. They are actively hiring looking for everything from mixologists to maintenance workers to run the property.
The bar and lounge area will be an environment Aloft hopes Tucson residents will take advantage of.
"Music is a big important component to us. So expect to come to the property, the WXYZ either before a game or to see a local band playing here in our lobby space," said Martin.
While it seems like there is still plenty of work to do construction is right on schedule. The grand opening is set for early April.
