TUCSON - The Green Halo Caregiver Collective can be plainly seen off of I-10 just south of Prince Road. It is presented as a care center distributing medicinal marijuana to those in need for free.
But according to police it was all just a smoke-screen with one purpose...to make money.
After a two month investigation police had enough evidence and moved in on Tuesday. As a result of the search warrant 2 adult males and 2 adult females were arrested, each of them was charged with one count of unlawful possession of marijuana and one count of unlawful possession of marijuana for sale.
The GHCC, displayed on the building's façade is located at 3359 N. Freeway. The alleged care center mentions hours of operation as 7 days a week from 10 am to 7 pm on it's voice-mail. Licenses for dispensaries have not been issued yet in Arizona but so-called caregivers can distribute marijuana to qualified recipients. Police spokesman, Sgt. Chris Widmer, says that while the GHCC may claim to have given out medicinal marijuana at no charge it was anything but free, "Actually what they were doing was giving marijuana away and then asking for a donation,", he said, "which pretty much equals a sale of marijuana.
Police say the names of the suspects will be released tomorrow.
Calls made to the GHCC were not returned.
