PHOENIX (AP) - Dispatcher audio recordings have been released in last week's slaying of a Gilbert police officer.

Lt. Eric Shuhandler was fatally shot in a shopping center parking lot during a traffic stop last Thursday night. His final words to a dispatcher suggest he was wary of the alleged gunman.

Shuhandler suspected the truck's passenger of being wanted on an outstanding warrant and the man wasn't happy to talk to him. A few minutes later, the 16-year veteran officer lay dead with a gunshot wound to the head.

The dispatch recordings released Monday by Gilbert police detail the ensuing 50-mile chase that ended in gunfire on the US 60 near Superior. Both suspects were wounded before they were arrested near Top-of-the-World, west of Globe. The 42-year-old Shuhandler's funeral is Wednesday in Scottsdale.
