TUCSON - We know now the name of the man hit and killed Thursday night.
Tucson Police say 72-year-old John E. Esquibel died after being hit by a vehicle near the intersection of South Campbell Avenue and East Irvington Road.
After an investigation, detectives say the driver of a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban was traveling southbound in the inside lane of Campbell Avenue south of Irvington Road. Esquibel was crossing Campbell Avenue from east to west. As he stepped into the southbound inside lane, the Suburban struck him. Police say Esquibel was not in a crosswalk.
He died shortly after arriving at the hospital. The driver of the Chevrolet Suburban was cited for driving on a suspended license.
