TUCSON - A powerful storm system is on the way to Arizona with the main concern being extremely gusty winds.
As an unusually strong cold front moves into the region confidence is high for some high wind speeds starting tomorrow afternoon. Tucson is under a Wind Advisory from 11am to 8pm Monday for gusts between 40-50mph.
Even stronger winds are expected across Cochise County where potentially damaging gusts could reach 60mph. Cochise County is under a High Wind Warning from 11am to 8pm Monday.
These extremely windy conditions will cause difficult travel with strong crosswinds and blowing dust. High winds can also topple trees, power lines and damage roofs so make sure your property is prepared.
Combine the winds with the dry air and there is a high fire danger also present for southern Arizona. A Red Flag Warning is in place from 11am to 8pm across the region. Any fires that do develop will likely see rapid and sporadic growth so outdoor burning is not recommended.
A few isolated showers and thunderstorms may also develop along the front Monday evening into early Tuesday. The best chance for any precipitation remains north and east of Tucson in the higher elevations, however, a stray shower or two may make it into the city.
This system will also bring much cooler temperatures for the middle of the work week. Check out your True View 4 extended forecast here to see that. For a look at the Warnings and Advisories visit John Patrick's Weather Blog.
