SAN LUIS - Two Mexican nationals were arrested this week following failed attempts to smuggle nearly 39 pounds of methamphetamine into the United States through the Port of San Luis.
Customs and Border Protection officers arrested a 31-year-old man, after a CBP narcotics detection canine alerted to the presence of drugs underneath his Jeep SUV yesterday where officers located 28 packages of methamphetamine. The packages had a combined weight of more than 26.6 pounds; worth in excess of $412,000.
Wednesday, officers referred a 29-year-old man for inspection of his Oldsmobile sedan. After a service canine alerted to the presence of drugs inside of the front bumper, officers found and removed nearly 12 pounds of meth valued at more than $180,000.
The drugs and vehicle were seized. Both men were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
