MESA, Ariz. (AP) - Police in Mesa say a 5-year-old girl is dead after she was hit by a pickup truck that may have run a red light.
Authorities say the girl, who was riding a tricycle, was crossing the street with her parents in the crosswalk Saturday around 8 p.m. when the truck struck her.
Mesa police spokesman Steve Berry says the female driver did stop.
Berry says impairment doesn't seem to be a factor. No others were injured.
Police are investigating why the driver ran through the light. They say the girl's family had the green light.
The accident occurred on Main Street, which was closed in both directions between Gilbert and Lindsey Roads for most of the night.
