5-star guard Trier commits to Arizona, Cats boast number one class

TUCSON - The way Sean Miller has pulled 5-star recruits, nothing comes as a shock anymore. It's no surprise that Miller has landed 5-star shooting guard Allonzo Trier of Montrose Christian in Maryland.

Trier is arguably the best scorer in the class of 2015 and is the number two overall shooting guard according to 247 Sports. The recruiting service lists him as the eighth best prospect in the nation.

"My relationship with Coach Miller and the way they recruited me was the difference," Trier told ESPN's Jeff Goodman. "It's a family program, a players program. I just fell in love with everything."

The 6-foot-4 guard has played all across the country, with stops in Seattle, Oklahoma City, Maryland and next year Las Vegas. He averaged over 30 points per game in the Nike Peach Jam throughout July. He posted numbers just shy of that at the Nike EYBL.

Trier will have big shoes to fill in 2015, as Arizona is expected to lose numerous players to the NBA and graduation. Stanley Johnson, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Brandon Ashley and Kaleb Tarczewski are all likely NBA players. Point guard T.J. McConnell enters his senior season this fall.

"I think the fit is perfect," Trier told ESPN. "They expect me to come in and do a lot. I want to get the team to the Final Four and win a national championship."

Trier's commitment gives the Wildcats the number one class in 2015. He joins fellow 5-star recruits Justin Simon and Ray Smith. Miller's three 5-star recruits are more than the other top 20 teams combined.
