5 killed in southern Nevada traffic crash

MESQUITE, Nev. - Five people are dead and four others critically injured after a crash involving an SUV and a van on Interstate 15 in southern Nevada.

The Nevada Highway Patrol says the SUV rear-ended the van early Saturday, causing both vehicles to roll near Mesquite, about 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas.

Troopers told KLAS-TV that five of seven people in the van were killed in the 3 a.m. wreck near the Utah line. The other two were sent in critical condition to the University Medical Center in Las Vegas.

Troopers say the two people in the SUV also were taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The Nevada Highway Patrol believes the driver of the SUV might have been intoxicated. The crash is under investigation.
