TUCSON - A fire sparked on the third floor of an apartment complex near Davis-Monthan Air Force Base is now under control, but five people have been temporarily displaced.
Tucson Fire officials at the scene confirm they were dispatched to the fire after a monitoring service altered TFD to the fire. As units were en route, multiple 911 calls came in, reporting smoke and flames from an apartment in the Via Pacifica complex.
At the time the fire broke out, five people were at home, officials say, including two children. The children's father smelled the smoke and evacuated the family.
Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control, but not before it completely destroyed the third-story unit. At this time, no other units were evacuated and no other residents have been displaced.
Apartment managers will try to find a unit to temporarily house the displaced family, and Red Cross is responding to assist.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time, fire officials said.
