TUCSON - Reid Park Zoo announces that "Zibulo," the Zoo's 37-year-old male white rhino, died on Friday, July 23.
Zoo officials say white rhinos typically live to be 35-40 years old in captivity. Zibulo had been under veterinary care for several age-related issues, but his health declined rapidly over the past several days.
Zibulo had been at the Reid Park Zoo for the past 24 years.
A necropsy will be performed to ascertain any details regarding his condition, although no unusual findings are expected.
Zibulo was born at the San Diego Wild Animal Park in October of 1972. He has been exhibited at Reid Park Zoo since 1976 with female rhino Yebonga, who is still on exhibit daily.
