PHOENIX - A task force has arrested more than two dozen people around Arizona after a seven-month investigation into illegal drug sales by street gangs.
Arizona Department of Public Safety officials say its Gang and Immigration Intelligence Team Enforcement Mission served 17 search and arrest warrants Wednesday in Coconino and Maricopa counties, resulting in 26 arrests.
Officials say the investigation involved buying drugs from gang members in Flagstaff and Williams who had purchased drugs from criminal street gangs in the Phoenix metropolitan area.
The drugs involved were methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana, ecstasy, prescription medications and marijuana paste called "wax."
Involved in the GIITEM investigation were the DPS, Flagstaff and Williams police and the Coconino County Sheriff's Office along with the FBI, U.S. Marshal's Service and other federal agencies.
