MARANA - It's going to be England's Luke Donald versus Germany's Martin Kaymer in the Match Play Championship final tomorrow at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club. The quarterfinals and the semifinals were both conducted today. Matt Kuchar, Luke Donald, Martin Kaymer, and Bubba Watson emerged victorious in their early morning quarterfinal matches. Bubba Watson was 5 down at the 10th hole to the person formerly known as the Amazing J.B. Holmes. Holmes' game unraveled on the back nine allowing Watson to get all square on the 18th hole. Holmes' drive on the first extra hole found what is called a native area (aka the desert) and opened the door to allow Bubba Watson to eke out a hard fought 1 up victory. Luke Donald won a relatively easy match against Ryan Moore , 5 and 4.
In the afternoon semifinals, Luke Donald continued his great play beating Matt Kuchar by the score of 6 and 5 while Martin Kaymer got the best of Bubba Watson in a highly entertaining match 1 up on the 18th green.
A low pressure area passing through Arizona tonight through early tomorrow is supposed to result in colder temperatures and precipitation which could possibly be in the form of snow as low as the 2500 foot elevation level. It will be interesting to see what color the high desert is in the morning as everyone wakes up. The golf course is right at 2600 feet altitude.
Below are some of the pictures from the different matches that will give you a flavor of today's action at the course. I hope you enjoy them.
