2011 WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship - Day 4, Field Cut to the Sweet 16

MARANA - Round 2 of the tournament is now in the books and to modify slightly a line from the title of a Queen song, Another "1" Bites the Dust not only once but twice as two more #1 bracket seeds were eliminated. Lee Westwood and Phil Mickelson joined Tiger Woods on the early departure list from the tournament. The only #1 bracket seed to advance to the next round was Germany's Martin Kaymer was pushed to extra holes (20) before finally defeating England's Justin Rose. Kaymer can take over the Number 1 position in the Official World Golf Ranking with a win or runner-up finish on Sunday.

Three of the four young guns that I mentioned yesterday made it through to the next round with only Rory McIlroy going down to a resounding defeat at the hands (or should I say club?) of Ben Crane, 8 & 7.

Seventeen year old Matteo Manassero of Italy came back from being two down to defeat South African Charl Schwatzel on the 18th hole. The young man isn't old enough to drive the rental car given him but he's out here knocking off two of the top 64 golfers in the world. In watching the young man today, he is a very mature looking guy for seventeen. In the next round he will face a tough opponent in England's Luke Donald who defeated Manassero's fellow Italian Edoardo Molinari.

I know that this is getting repetitive but this was just another perfect day for golf and tomorrow is expected to be the same but changes are headed our way. The good people in California have heard enough about the super weather here and have colluded with the weather God's to send up some rain and wind on Saturday night through Sunday, We'll have to wait and see what impact this will have on the tournament.

Until tomorrow...
