NEW ORLEANS, LA (AP) - It just wouldn't be a hurricane without power outages.

Hurricane Isaac has knocked out power to more than 200,000 homes and businesses along the Gulf coast, and with 80 mph winds, and that's probably just the start.

Isaac is a massive, slow-moving storm that spans almost 200 miles from its center. It made landfall shortly before 7 p.m. CDT near the mouth of the Mississippi River, about 75 southeast of New Orleans. The storm's center is expected to eventually move west of New Orleans and north toward Baton Rouge.

Forecasters say wind gusts could reach 100 mph later tonight. Rainfall, which is expected to measure 7 to 20 inches in some areas, will test the levee system that was fortified after Hurricane Katrina. Wednesday is the seventh anniversary of Katrina's arrival.
