2 women sought in Gem Show phone scam

TUCSON - Police are seeking two women they claim was part of a phone scame during the Gem Show.

A visitor staying at downtown's Hotel Tucson received a phone call just before midnight on Feb. 10 from someone he thought was friend that was in town, Tucson Police Sgt. Chris Widmer said.

The caller said his car had broken down and needed money. Widmer said the victim agreed to loan the man money. Arrangements were made for two women to pick up the cash, Widmer said.

The women were able to walk away with several thousands of dollars, Widmer said.

The first suspect is described as an African-American female, 25 to 30 years old, 5'05" to 5"06" tall,130 to 140 pounds. She was wearing denim pants and a white or grey hooded type jacket.

The second suspect was described as a Hispanic or Indian female, 25 to 30 years old, 5'04" tall, 120 to 140 pounds (possibly pregnant). She was wearing blackish/brown
tights and a camouflage jacket.

Anyone with information on the identity of these suspects is urged tocall 911 or 88-CRIME.
