2 Arizona drug busts net $1.5M worth of marijuana

WHY, Ariz. (AP) - Nearly 1,500 pounds of marijuana worth more than three-quarters of $1 million have been found in the southern Arizona desert.

U.S. Border Patrol agents working east of the community of Why found the drugs inside an abandoned SUV on Thursday. Agents estimate the 66 large bundles that were stuffed into the back of the vehicle are worth nearly $745,000 (pictured).

The SUV was parked in a large thicket. A records check showed it had been reported stolen in Nevada.

A high-dollar bust was also made Thursday night by the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office. Deputies arrested four people and seized $47,000 in cash and more than 1,570 pounds of marijuana after serving a warrant at a home in Phoenix.

The sheriff's office says the seizure was worth more than $785,000.
