19 injured in light-rail collision in SF's Bayview

SAN FRANCISCO - Officials say 19 people have been taken to the hospital with minor injuries after a light-rail train collided with a van making an illegal left turn in San Francisco.

Municipal Transportation spokesman Paul Rose says the incident occurred around 1 p.m. Saturday when the van attempted to make a left turn in front of an oncoming T-Line train near the intersection of Third Street and Evans Avenue in the city's Bayview District.

Rose says 19 people were taken to the hospital after suffering minor to moderate injuries.

Rose said service in the area has been temporarily halted as stranded passengers heading toward downtown San Francisco were being transported by shuttle buses.

The train and the van were both heavily damaged as investigators will take a look at nearby surveillance videos.
