TUCSON - Since the beginning of this month, Border Patrol agents in Southern Arizona have rescued over a dozen illegal immigrants from the desert, and found the bodies of five others who appear to have succumbed to the desert heat.
During separate incidents in the first two weeks of July, Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents rescued 15 alleged illegal immigrations, providing medical attention due to dehydration in each case, according to a news release from Customs and Border Protection. Agents from the Border Patrol Search, Trauma and Rescue unit were assisted by the CBP's Office of Air and Marine's air assets to deploy to high risk areas and provide treatment.
Border Patrol agents have also found five bodies while patrolling within the Tucson Sector, the release states. The subjects appear to have all died from environmental exposure.
