TUCSON - Southwest Gas says about 14,000 homes are still without natural gas, but the system pressure is holding stable; Tucson Water restored service to over 1,400 customers - numerous main line breaks across the city have been repaired.
Southwest Gas representative Libby Howell says that last night was warmer than expected, which helped maintain pressure in the system. Some areas of concern are the midtown area and Green Valley. The system never fully recovered from the major outage yesterday - around 14,000 are still without gas.
Tucson Water representative Fernando Molina says crews worked through the night, responding to customer requests and monitoring facilities for damage - field crews also responded to several water main breaks throughout the Tucson Water area.
Over 1,400 customers have had their water restored, about 60 customers remain without water due to damage to Tucson Water facilities. The primary areas affected are near Thunderhead Ranch Drive and Old Spanish Trail, and the Saguaro Ranch area east of Dove Mountain, Molina says.
Many customers continue to experience water outages or leaks because of frozen household plumbing. Tucson Water is asking customers to report leaks by e-mailing: waterleaks@tucsonaz.gov or calling Customer Service at: 791-3242.
Updated information on both the water and gas situation is expected at a news conference later today. Stay tuned to News 4 Tucson and KVOA.com for the latest.
