120-mph chase ends with dead suspect near Red Rocks

RED ROCKS - A suspect was fatally shot Monday morning by a Pinal County Sheriff after a high speed chase on Highway 87.

The suspects fled from the M Passion Adult Boutique off I-10 and Picacho Peak just after 6:20 a.m. after stealing the safe, Sheriff Paul Babeu said.

The clerk they tied up had escaped and called 911 with a description of the vehicle. At 6:29 a.m., a deputy saw the car, an Audi, speed away on westbound I-10, Babeu said.

The suspects fled at speeds over 120 mph, Babeu said. At 6:37 a.m., the Audi drove off Highway 87 and pulled into a dirt field, colliding with a deputy vehicle.

The two supects got out of the car and fired at them, deputies said. The deputy returned fire and shot both suspects -- killing one. The other suspect was shot once in the arm and leg and taken to the hospital.

The deputy who shot and killed the suspect is a 7 year veteran of the Pinal County Sheriffs. The two suspects have not been identified but are said to be in their 30s.
