11-year-old anti-obesity advocate to dine with First Lady

TUCSON - A local advocate against childhood obesity will be dining with the First Lady next week - 11-year-old Haile Thomas has been chosen to represent Arizona at a State Dinner for winning epicurious.com's Healthy Lunchtime Challenge.

A version of Haile's winning recipe, a Quinoa, Black Bean and Corn Salad, was actually featured on News 4 Tucson's "Let's Make a Meal" last year. Now, her healthy, kid-friendly dish has earned a seat at the White House "State Dinner" hosted by First Lady Michelle Obama.

News 4 Tucson spoke briefly with Haile via Skype - she's already in Washington D.C. ahead of Monday's dinner. Haile has been busy creating new fun, fresh and healthy recipes for kids, and is currently working with Hyatt Hotels to help develop a healthy kids menu.

Haile was also featured earlier this year on Kristi's Kids for founding the Healthy Girl Adventures Club and website, loaded with games, recipes, and more.
