11-year-old anti-obesity advocate dines with First Lady

TUCSON - More than 50 kids joined First Lady Michelle Obama at the first-ever "Kids' State Dinner" at the White House today.

Among them was Tucson's own Haile Thomas, a dedicated young girl who has been featured on News 4 Tucson before for her efforts to reduce childhood obesity.

Her original recipe, a Quinoa, Black Bean and Corn Salad, was one of six winning entries, from a national competition that was prepared by white house chefs for the event.

The challenge was to have families create a healthy, affordable, and delicious lunchtime recipe.

Only 54 young chefs were chosen from more than 1,200 entries.

For more on Haile's visit to the White House, watch this raw video of a Skype interview we did with her last week.
