$100 million street repair project in Tucson

TUCSON - The city of Tucson has decided how to spend its $100 million on street repairs.
In 2012, Proposition 409 passed. It allocates $100 million in bonds to fix roads in Tucson.

"Some of the roads are going to get a full removal and replacement, that is going to give it a great ride and longer life, some roads that are completely shot, those will have to be completely reconstructed to which all the asphalt comes off," said Steve Pageau who site on the Bond Oversight Committee.

$85 million will be used to fix stretches of major roadways including Wetmore road, Oracle, and Speedway. The city got input from bike riders and motorists when selecting these streets to repair.

"I think it would be awesome for the roads and conditions being better, it would encourage more riders take their bikes and ride," said bike rider Julian Nunez.

The other $15 million will be used for residential streets. The city will spend $20 million each year over the next 5 years.
