TUCSON - The Northwest Fire District has been awarded a $1.52 million "Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response" grant.
The grant funds the salary and employer contribution to benefits for 12 firefighter positions for a period of two years. Veterans who are successful in the application process will be funded for 3 years.
In 2006, the district received the same type of grant in the amount of $1.44 million. The grant overall allowed for extensive growth and increased staffing.
The application process for the upcoming academy has started and will be available until May 1st, 2014. The minimum requirements include; 18 years of age, valid driver's license, high school diploma or GED, and an EMT or paramedic certification in hand as of May 5th.
