PHOENIX (AP) - Rep. Justin Pierce says he's running for Arizona Secretary of State in 2014.
Pierce announced his plans Tuesday.
The Republican lawmaker announced the formation of an exploratory committee July 18 for a possible run at the Secretary of State's office.
Pierce says all necessary paperwork has been filed and he won't seek re-election to his House seat in Legislative District 25.
Recent changes to Arizona's "resign-to-run" law mean elected officials can now speak publicly about running for another position.
Secretary of State Ken Bennett has taken advantage of the revisions to say he'll be a Republican candidate for governor.
Before the changes that went into effect last month, such a statement would have required Bennett to step down.
Bennett's term ends two months after the gubernatorial election in November 2014.
