The following is a release from the Pima County Sheriff's Department:
On January 23, 2013, detectives from the Sheriff's Fugitive Investigative Strike Team (FIST)
and members of the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) Arizona WANTED Task Force apprehended
a wanted fugitive, Carlos Zacarias (09/12/83). Zacarias was wanted for several outstanding
felony warrants, including a warrant for 1st Degree Murder reference the homicide of Gray Eagle
Joseph Ortiz in August of 2012. For further information on that case, please refer to our previous

FIST detectives have been actively pursuing Mr. Zacarias for the past several months. During
the course of their investigation, intelligence was developed that led detectives to a car they
believed Mr. Zacarias to be traveling in. After monitoring the vehicle, a traffic stop was
conducted where the passenger of the vehicle was positively identified as Carlos Zacarias. He
was successfully taken into custody and booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Center on
his outstanding charges.
