TUCSON - 90 degree weather rules the next 7 days.
High pressure is starting to build off the California coast, according to News 4 Meteorologist Jeff Beamish. Because of this, we'll see a gradual rise in daytime highs, with low 90's possible this afternoon in Tucson. High temps today are running 5-7 degrees above average for mid-April.
This area of high pressure moves over the state starting tomorrow, bringing some rare air. After low 90's for highs Friday, temps over the weekend will be 3-4 degrees away from triple digits. Since 1895, 97+ degree highs have only occurred 1.3% of the time in Tucson, with 98+ degree temps occurring 0.7% of the time.
While we should stay safe from 100 in Tucson, record highs may fall by the wayside. Sunday's forecast high is a degree shy of tying the record of 98 degrees. Monday afternoon could feature a new record high for that date, with a forecast temp of 97 degrees (record high is 96).
The 90's stay put through the middle of next week.
